We are getting too much spam. We have installed filters that delete or bounce emails with attachments or those coded in HTML ('Formatted' emails). The filters eliminate almost all of the spams - but one or two legitimate emails get caught too. If you have been directed here yours was one of them.
If you need to send us an attachment then first send us a plain text email asking for a temporary email address that avoids the filters. Don't bother adding it to your address book, it really is temporary.
Some ISPs provide software that automatically adds attachments, some businesses add attachments to every outgoing email and some CyberCafés do the same for tourists. Or you may have been provided with software - but no instructions on how to control it.

The original email format was plain text and plain text only, rather like a personal telegram. Methods were evolved to attach other computer files (pictures, sounds, spreadsheets etc.) to emails. After the World Wide Web was invented in 1992/3 HTML (WWW type) pages were added too. Most email programs offer these facilities. Unfortunately spammers and viruses abuse them. Most email viruses come in attachments and many spammers send HTML and attachments. If you have been directed to this page your email program is sending them without your knowledge. You may be sending far more information than you realise. Typically a plain text version of your message plus a 'formatted' HTML version plus a 'visiting card' attachment containing your personal details.
It is usually possible to turn off these additions which incidentally reduces the size of the emails you send and saves a little connect-time. Ask your help-desk, tell them you want to send plain text emails only.
For example, to send plain text emails with most versions of Outlook Express: Select 'Tools' then 'Options' and 'Send' You will be able to amend your Mail Sending Format, click on the button next to 'plain text' then click 'OK' and 'Apply'
